THE CHEESE SHOP

Over 100 cheeses, cut to order

Scottish, British and Continental cheese across the counter, cut fresh to order rather than pre-wrapped. At least half the counter is given to dairy farmers and artisan cheesemakers, from Strathearn here in Perthshire to small makers across France, Italy and Spain.

100+ varieties
THE DELI COUNTER

Charcuterie, antipasti and Perthshire produce

Charcuterie, olives, antipasti, fermented foods and the accompaniments that finish a board. We carry the area’s widest range of Perthshire produce, from local artisans and farmers a short drive from George Street.

WHISKY & OFF LICENCE

Scotch, gin and a Scottish wine list

A proper off licence sat behind the counter: Scotch whisky, Scottish and craft gins, and wines chosen to sit beside the cheese and the charcuterie. The bottles change with what the makers send us.

Two thousand pantry lines and hampers

Over two thousand pantry products, bakery, store-cupboard staples and the gifts and hampers that go out by Click and Collect or national courier. The shelves carry what we would happily eat at home.

THE CHEESE · CUT FRESH TO ORDER

A counter built the way a cheesemonger thinks.

The cheese is the heart of the shop. Over a hundred varieties at any time, Scottish, British and Continental, cut to order at the counter rather than pulled pre-wrapped from a shelf. We keep at least half the counter for dairy farmers and artisan makers, and the staff have studied with the Guild of Fine Food and the Specialist Cheesemakers Association, so the advice across the glass is real.

ONE SHOP · TWO FAMILIES · THE FAIR CITY

Diane started it in 2005. Ed and Elle keep it going.

Diane Brown opened her dream deli on George Street in 2005, and over nineteen years made it Perth’s favourite independent food shop. Ed Murdoch and Elle Whitby, who ran Fig & Fromage in Newport-on-Tay and used to make the trip through Perth just to shop here, took it on in February 2024 when Diane got in touch about handing it to the right people. The counter has not changed hands so much as carried on.

FAQ · WHAT WE GET ASKED AT THE COUNTER

Five questions, answered up front.

Do you cut the cheese fresh, and how long will it keep?

Every cheese is cut to order at the counter, not pre-wrapped. As a rough guide a hard cheese keeps about ten days from cutting and a soft or blue about seven, kept wrapped in the fridge and brought up to room temperature before serving.

Can you make a cheese wedding cake or a board for an event?

Yes. We build cheese wedding cakes and celebration cheese cakes, and put together boards and hampers for events of any size. Tell us the numbers and the kind of thing you like and we will plan it with you.

Do you stock Scottish and Perthshire produce and whisky?

We do. The counter leans on Scottish and Perthshire makers, from Strathearn cheese to local artisans, and the off licence carries Scotch whisky, Scottish gins and wines chosen to sit with the food.

Can you post a hamper, or do you deliver?

Yes. The online deli carries over 2,000 products, with Click and Collect from George Street and national courier delivery across the UK. Hampers can be built to a budget and sent anywhere.

Where exactly are you, and is there parking?

At 23 George Street, in the heart of Perth near St John’s Kirk. There is on-street parking on George Street, the city’s fifteen-minute free parking, and two Park and Ride services. The rail and bus stations are about ten minutes’ walk.
